PHLEBOTOMY

 
All of our phlebotomy training courses are comprehensive and emphasizes a “hands-on” method – each student will draw blood several times in each class. These draws will be performed with supervision on other class members. Our instructors will guide you as you learn a variety of types phlebotomy techniques. In addition, you will learn the “tricks of the trade” that will help with special patients and difficult draws.
 

 
4-WEEK COURSE - $650 (includes tuition, registration fee and text book/materials)

This is a 4-week program that provides the experienced student with additional skills and training in order to succeed in the healthcare field as a phlebotomist or other healthcare professional. This course is intended to compliment the student's current medical training and/or experience. This course contains lecture discussion and practical instruction. The student must demonstrate proficient phlebotomy skills and will be given the option to do a 1 or 2-day clinical externship at The Ohio State University Wilce Student Health Center. This clinical experience is optional but highly recommended. A criminal background check at OSU is required with the $55 fee paid directly to OSU. This class is recommended for students with any kind of prior medical training, medical education or medical experience.

6-WEEK COURSE - $650 (includes tuition, registration fee and text book/materials)

Our 6-week course provides the student with skills and training in order to succeed as a phlebotomist. This course contains lecture discussion and practical instruction plus a 40-hour clinical externship at a local patient service center, reference lab, hospital or clinic. This is a larger time commitment but the externship is a valuable clinical experience. This course is recommended for the beginner.

CONTINUING EDUCATION WORKSHOP: PARAMEDICAL EXAMINER / HEALTH & WELLNESS SCREENER 

1-DAY WORKSHOP - $195 

PARAMEDICAL EXAMINER - Sometimes called a “Field Examiner” or “Mobile Phlebotomist,” this exciting career is performing physical exams on clients for insurance companies. The exams are done at client’s home or business. Duties include taking a detailed medical history, gather and record vital signs, venipuncture and performing a resting EKG. As an independent contractor, you set your own schedule and can even make your own appointments with clients directly. This course consists of:

  • Performing a complete insurance physical
  • Performing a resting EKG using a Schiller AT-1 mobile EKG machine
  • Medical terminology for taking a detailed medical history
  • Taking accurate blood pressure, pulse, height, weight, chest and waist measurements
  • Urine drug screen collection following chain of custody
  • Mobile phlebotomy (tips from the pros)
  • Explaining your work orders, paramed forms and lab slips
  • How to maximize your earnings by managing your independent contractor schedule (tricks of the trade)
  • How to get started being an independent contractor with list of names of companies to contact who have hired our graduates!

HEALTH SCREENER - Performs health screenings at health fairs as an independent contractor. We will teach you how to perform all the health screeing duties:

  • Performing a finger stick and test for cholesterol and glucose using a Cholestech LDX machine (You can add Cholestech LDX training to your resume!)
  • Taking blood pressure using both a stethoscope and manual cuff as well as an automatic cuff
  • Peforming accurate BMI, body composition, height and weight
  • Health coaching/education: provide coaching on test results for Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Glucose, Triglycerides, Blood Pressure and BMI
