Frequently asked questions

What is the cost?
We offer two different phlebotomy courses to suit your experience level, learning style, and schedule. The cost for either course is $650. This includes registration fee, tuition and books/materials.

What is the difference between the 4-week and the 6-week class?
The 4-week accelerated course meets once a week for 3 hours. You must have prior medical training, education, work history or background in order to register for the accelerated class. If you are unsure if your background qualifies you, please give us a call. A clinical externship is NOT required for this class although we recommend doing at least a one day clinical that we set up for you at The Ohio State University’s Wilce Student Health Center. This will give you additional drawing experience on real patients in an actual clinical setting.

The 6-week course is a beginner course and meets twice a week for 4 hours. This course has a required 40-hour clinical externship. The externship is set up for you by us at a local clinic, lab or hospital.

How is Ohio School of Phlebotomy different than other schools that teach phlebotomy?
The name says it all. We teach just phlebotomy. We have a proven technique that makes phlebotomy easy and fun to learn. We are very hands-on and students draw blood on the very first day of class!

Our clinical externships are at local hospitals, clinics and labs where you will gain valuable experience drawing blood on actual patients of all ages. This is great experience and exactly what employers are looking for. We place you in the externship. We do not make you find your own or perform an “in-house” clinical. These are not what employers are looking for. They want you to have actual clinical experience and so should you!

How do I register for the classes?
You just need to mail in a registration form along with your $50 registration fee. This will hold a spot in the class. The registration form can be downloaded from our registration page, or by clicking below. We can also send one to you in the mail. Click here to download the registration form.

Office Hours?
Due to classes running continuously, we meet prospective students by appointment only. To make an appointment, please contact our Admissions Coordinator, Joe Wentzel at (614) 262-6691 or by his email: Joe@OhioPhlebotomy.com

Do you offer payment plans? So you accept financial aid?
You do not need to pay for the entire class tuition and fees upfront. We offer weekly payment plans that make it easy to start. We can also customize a payment plan for you. We require that all tuition and fees ($650) is paid in full by the last day of class. We do not accept federal financial aid. We use Paypal for your convenience and ease of payment.

Is there a dress code?
There is not a special dress code for class except for close-toed shoes, a shirt that sleeves roll up and if applicable, long hair pulled back. We do encourage students to wear scrubs if you have them. You will need a pair of scrubs for the clinical externship – any color or style is fine.

Do I need to purchase any supplies?
You do not need to purchase any supplies. We will have everything for you including your text book and all phlebotomy supplies. The text book is yours to keep and there is no extra charge. We encourage you to bring a notebook for taking notes.

Are there any other costs?
Depending on where your clinical assignment is located, you may be required to complete a background check, health physical and TB test. All fees associated are extra costs to the student. Most of our clinical placements only require a TB test that can be done at any local clinic. This should cost $15 - $20.

Where are you located?
We are located in Columbus in Clintonville near the intersection of North High Street and West Henderson Road. Our address is 17 Aldrich Road. Parking is across the street on Aldrich at the Maple Grove United Methodist Church parking lot. Walk directly across Aldrich and enter in the front door. The classroom in on the main floor on the right.

Will I be certified?
You will receive a certificate of completion in phlebotomy. This is the same for all schools that teach phlebotomy, including technical colleges and community colleges. We are an approved certificate program through the State Board of Career Colleges and Schools. This certificate is all that is needed to work in the field of phlebotomy.

Other schools require you to sit for a national certification. This will give you CPT (Certified Phlebotomy Technician) credentials after your name. We do not require this but instead left it optional for the student. Again, it is not required to work in the field. Our national certification is through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) that offers an accredited CPT exam.

Tell me more about National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
The Certified Phlebotomy Technician program (CPT) through NHA is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). NHA has been approved by the state of California to offer national certification in Phlebotomy, thus qualifying applicants to apply for their state licensure. Therefore, this certification is transferable to all states within the United States. The cost to sit for the exam is $105 plus $40 for the text book. The exam is taken at the Ohio School of Phlebotomy and our staff will make arrangements for you.
