Medical Assistant (MA) Program

Classroom

Because of the high demand for Medical Assistants with phlebotomy skills, OSP is now offering a 9-week Clinical Medical Assistant program. We are committed to teaching the essential fundamentals for starting a career as a Medical Assistant. Students gain valuable experience in both hands on teaching and understanding the premise of direct patient care. Our comprehensive courses will allow you to learn the techniques for performing accurate vitals, medical histories, phlebotomy, CLIA-waived testing, wound dressing, injections and front office standard procedures. Our instructors will guide you as you gain a thorough understanding of the following:
      - HIPAA and Patient's Rights
      - Universal Precautions and Safety
      - Medical terminology
      - Anatomy and Physiology
      - Injections and Dressings
      - EKG, Vitals, CLIA-waived tests, Phlebotomy, laboratory, specimen processing
      - Patient prep, Exam room, Triage, Explain Procedure, Charting, Medical history, Reason for visit
      - Medications and Pharmacology
      - Professionalism

Clinical Externship

Following successful completion of the Medical Assisting program and passing the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) NHA Certification exam, students have the option to be placed in a clinical externship of up to one week at a hospital, laboratory or clinic. The purpose of the clinical externship is to allow students to be exposed to an actual patient care environment and clinical setting where you will utilize the skills learned in class.

Externships are customized to fit the needs of the facility and student but all require full day time availability. Students may need to complete physical assessment, background testing and TB testing prior to patient contact depending on the specific requirements of each location. Generally students are placed within one to two weeks of completing all of the required components.

CCMA Certification

OSP is an approved Medical Assistant certificate program through the State of Ohio Board of Career Colleges and Schools. You will sit for the accredited CCMA national exam through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) to become a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).

The cost of this 9-Week Course is $1,600 which includes:
             -Text book
             -Registration fee

             -NHA examination fee
